Sirene Martin

Biography

Sirene Martin is an Assistant Curator and Repatriation Coordinator at the Speed Art Museum. She is an emerging specialist in African American art and African traditional religious art history. Sirene currently leads the museum’s NAGPRA Program, playing a crucial role in its inception.

She cares for both the Native American and African Diasporic collections and is currently developing foundational scholarship to support the re-imagination of the Speed’s African Diasporic galleries.

Sirene holds a degree in Pan-African Studies with a specialization in Aesthetics from the University of Louisville and is currently pursuing graduate studies. She was part of the 2024 cohort for the Burke Museum’s Curatorial Workshop and previously served as an AAMD Intern.
